Switching from Bitly

Bring your Bitly links and back-halves.
One subscription for the whole stack.

Export your links from Bitly, drop the CSV into Toolbox, and get a short link for each, with its title and custom back-half where it's free to use. A results file pairs every old link with its new one. Short links are one tool in a side panel that also has a screen recorder, a PDF editor and screenshots.

Who it's for

Made for you if…

  • You make short links and QR codes for posts, emails and print, and change where they go.
  • You'd like to pay month to month.
  • You pay for a few browser tools and want them under one subscription.
Bring your data

Move from Bitly to Toolbox

Your links with their titles. Custom back-halves become your Toolbox short codes where they're free to use.

  1. In Bitly, open Links and choose Export. Bitly offers export on some paid plans.
  2. Bitly emails you a CSV file (a selection of up to 100 links downloads straight away). Download it.
  3. In Toolbox, open Links on the web, press Import and drop the CSV. Check the preview, then import.
  4. Download the results file: each Bitly link next to its new Toolbox link, so you can update the places you shared them.

What comes over

  • Each link's destination and title
  • Tags, when your file has a tags column
  • Custom back-halves, as your Toolbox short codes when they're free to use
  • The date each link was made

What doesn't

  • Your bit.ly addresses: they stay with Bitly. The results file pairs each one with its new link
  • Click history: counts start fresh in Toolbox
  • Branded domains and landing pages
Import from Bitly You'll see what comes over before anything is added.
What to expect

Link shortener in Toolbox, next to Bitly

Where Toolbox is as good or better, and where it's different. Where Bitly does more, we say so.

Different

  • Links use the Toolbox domain: there's no branded domain of your own.
  • No landing pages, link-in-bio pages or API.
  • No city-level click data.
  • On its own, Bitly's entry plan costs less a month than Toolbox. Toolbox pays off when it replaces several apps.

Questions

What happens to my old bit.ly links?

They stay in your Bitly account, and Bitly keeps running them. The import makes a new Toolbox link for each, and the results file pairs every Bitly link with its new one so you can update where you posted them.

Can I keep my custom back-halves?

Yes, when they're free to use in Toolbox: a back-half becomes the link's Toolbox short code. If one is taken or reserved, that link gets a random code, and the results file shows it.

My Bitly plan can't export. What now?

Copy your links' destination addresses from Bitly and paste them into the importer, one per line, with an optional title after a space.

Is there a limit?

Importing needs Premium, which has no limit on links. Up to 5,000 links come in a day; for a bigger file, import it again the next day and the links already brought over are skipped.

Is Toolbox free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like full-page captures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds signatures, Office conversions and bookmark cleanups on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
