Switching from Pocket

Pocket is gone. Your reading list doesn't have to be.
One subscription for the whole stack.

Drop the file you exported from Pocket into Toolbox and your saved links come back with their tags and archive. Save new articles from any page, highlight as you read and read in a clean view, in the same Chrome side panel as your screen recorder, PDF editor and short links.

Who it's for

Made for you if…

  • You exported your Pocket list before it shut down, and the file is still in your Downloads.
  • You save articles during the day and read them later, and want them in one place again.
  • You already pay for other browser tools and would rather have one subscription than another app.
Bring your data

Move from Pocket to Toolbox

Pocket's export is a list of your saves as links, without the article text. Toolbox reads each one's address, title, the date you saved it, its tags and whether you'd archived it.

  1. Find the export you downloaded from Pocket: a CSV file, or an HTML file from an older export. If it came in a .zip, unzip it first.
  2. Open Read later in Toolbox on the web, press Import and drop the file.
  3. Check the preview (how many links, how many archived and tagged), then import. Links you've already saved are skipped.

What comes over

  • Every saved link, with its title
  • The date you saved it
  • Your tags
  • Archived items, kept in your archive

What doesn't

  • Favorites: the importer doesn't mark them
  • Article text: imported saves arrive as links. Open one and save it from the extension to keep its text for the reader
  • Highlights: the importer doesn't bring Pocket highlights over
Import your Pocket file You'll see what comes over before anything is added.
What to expect

Read later in Toolbox, next to Pocket

Where Toolbox is as good or better, and where it's different. Where Pocket does more, we say so.

Different

  • There's no phone app: Toolbox runs in desktop Chrome, and your list is on the Toolbox website too.
  • No recommendations or discovery feed: it's your list and nothing else.
  • The free plan holds 100 articles. Importing and a longer list need Premium.

Questions

Can I still export my data from Pocket?

No. Mozilla shut Pocket down on July 8, 2025 and kept the export open until November 12, 2025, when the remaining data was queued for deletion. If you downloaded your export before then, that file imports here.

Does the import keep my tags and archive?

Yes. Tags and archived items come over as they are in the file. Favorites and article text don't: imported saves arrive as links, and you can save any of them from the extension to read it in the Toolbox reader.

I used Omnivore or Instapaper. Does that work too?

Yes. The same Import button reads Omnivore's export .zip, with its labels and highlights, and Instapaper's CSV export, with its folders. It also takes a browser bookmarks file or any CSV with a url column.

Do I need Premium to import?

Yes, importing is a Premium feature. You can drop the file and see the preview on the free plan, then upgrade to bring it in. Saving, reading, highlighting and exporting are free, up to 100 articles.

Is Toolbox free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like full-page captures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds signatures, Office conversions and bookmark cleanups on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
