Switching from Todoist

Bring your Todoist tasks over as reminders.
One subscription for the whole stack.

Export your projects from Todoist, drop the files into Toolbox, and every task with a due date becomes a reminder that pops up in Chrome, and lands in your email too on Premium. Reminders are one tool in a side panel that also has a screen recorder, a PDF editor and short links.

Every tool has a free planImport free. Repeating reminders need PremiumPremium from $20/month, no limits

Who it's for

Made for you if…

  • You use Todoist mostly to be reminded at the right time, not to run big projects.
  • You spend your day in Chrome and want reminders to pop up there, or arrive by email.
  • You pay for several browser tools and want one subscription.
Bring your data

Move from Todoist to Toolbox

Each project becomes a list, with its due dates, repeats, descriptions and comments. Your most urgent tasks are flagged.

  1. In Todoist, open a project, click the three dots, then Manage data → Export as CSV. Do it for each project you want.
  2. On Todoist Pro or Business you can take everything at once: Settings → Backups, then download the latest backup .zip.
  3. In Toolbox, open Reminders on the web, press Import and drop the files together.
  4. Choose what happens to sections and to tasks without a date, check the preview, then import.

What comes over

  • Projects, as lists, and sections as lists of their own if you like
  • Due dates, deadlines and repeats
  • Descriptions and comments, in the reminder's notes
  • Priority 1 tasks, flagged; labels and parent tasks, noted
  • The first link in a task, as the reminder's link

What doesn't

  • Completed tasks: Todoist's exports and backups leave them out
  • Due dates written in a language other than English: those tasks get tomorrow morning, or are skipped, your choice
  • Boards, filters and sharing: Toolbox Reminders is for being reminded
Import from Todoist You'll see what comes over before anything is added.
What to expect

Reminders in Toolbox, next to Todoist

Where Toolbox is as good or better, and where it's different. Where Todoist does more, we say so.

Different

  • It's a reminders tool, not a full task manager: no boards, filters, shared projects or productivity reports.
  • No phone app: reminders come in Chrome on your computer, and by email on Premium.
  • On its own, Todoist costs less than Toolbox. Toolbox pays off when it replaces several apps.
The math

One subscription instead of a stack

This is one job. Toolbox also does the jobs below, in the same side panel, with one sign-in. Paying for the leading app for each costs $1,293.24 a year more.

Questions

Something else? Write to us from the Contact link below.

Do repeating tasks keep repeating?

On Premium, yes: repeats are read as Todoist wrote them. On the free plan, repeating tasks come over as one-time reminders.

What about tasks without a due date?

You choose: give them tomorrow morning as their time, or leave them out.

Is there a limit?

The free plan has no cap on reminders. An account holds up to 2,000, and the importer brings in the ones that fit.

Is Toolbox free?

Yes. Every tool works on the free plan, with a few limits. Premium removes the limits and adds features like full-page captures and cloud storage, for every tool at once. Pro adds signatures, Office conversions and bookmark cleanups on top. You only add a card if you decide to upgrade.
